The original The Gate was released in 1987 and starred a then unknown Stephen Dorff. The movie was written and directed by Tibor Takacs. It tells the story of a group of kids who, while playing in the woods, find a hole that leads to another world inhabited by monsters. The kids must then find a way to close the gate and prevent the monsters from coming through.

The Gate was a surprise hit and spawned a sequel, The Gate II: Trespassers, in 1992. The sequel was not as well received as the original but still has a cult following.

There have been several other movies that have used the gate monster concept, including the 2009 film The Hole and the 2011 film The tunnel.

There are a few other horror movies that feature a gate monster, but not as the primary antagonist. One such movie is “The Cabin in the Woods”, where the gate monster is one of many monsters that are released into the cabin. Another is “Evil Dead II”, where the gate monster is one of the demonic forms that Ash Williams takes on.
