Horror movies date back to the late 1800s, when films began to be shown publicly. One of the first horror films ever made was the 1898 short film Le Manoir du diable, or The Devil’s Castle. The film was only a minute and a half long, but it featured a number of special effects, including a bat-like creature that flew through the air.

While The Devil’s Castle was one of the first horror films, it was not the first film to feature supernatural elements. In fact, horror as a genre did not really exist until the early 1900s. It was not until the release of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in 1920 that horror began to be recognized as its own genre. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is often considered the first true horror film, and it set the standard for many of the horror films that would follow.

The first horror movie is considered to be George Melies’ “Le Manoir du Diable,” which was released in 1896.

How was the first horror movie ever made?

The first ever horror film was created by Georges Méliès in 1896. The film, entitled The House of the Devil, was found at the New Zealand Film Archive in 1988.
