The present study investigates the connection between personality traits and preference for horror movie genre. Low neuroticism and high sensation seeking were found to be better predictors of horror movie preference (Zuckerman & Little, 1985). The findings suggest that people who are less neurotic and more sensation seeking are more likely to enjoy horror movies. This may be because they are less easily scared and more able to handle the suspense and excitement of a horror movie.<\/p>\n

There are three types of horror fans according to Clasen and his colleagues- adrenaline junkies, white knucklers and dark copers. Adrenaline junkies get a mood boost from the recreational fear experience and try to maximize that experience. They actively focus on scary events or allow themselves to scream. White knucklers try to keep their fear under control and use horror films as a way to release tension. Dark copers find horror films depressing and use them as a way to numbed their feelings.<\/p>\n
