The Exorcist is a 1973 American supernatural horror film directed by William Friedkin, adapted from the 1971 novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty. The film stars Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, Max von Sydow, and Lee J. Cobb. It follows the demonic possession of a 12-year-old girl and her mother’s attempt to win back her daughter through an exorcism conducted by two Catholic priests. <\/p>\n

The Exorcist is generally considered to be one of the greatest and most influential horror films of all time. It was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, winning two (Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Sound Mixing). It was also nominated for eight Golden Globe Awards, winning five (Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor – Von Sydow, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score). In addition, it won three BAFTAs (including Best Film and Best Direction), and was inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 2000 as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.<\/p>\n
