Even though he’s imaginary, both George and Martha have deep attachment to the boy Martha reveals the depth of her feeling when she says that he is, “the one light in all this hopeless… darkness” (3401). This speaks to the power that the boy has over them, as he brings them some hope and happiness in a time when they are struggling. It also shows how much they love and care for each other, as they are willing to hold onto this one shared happiness.<\/p>\n
